Late in the afternoon
you always knew.
The kids were home from school
and the dad's were too.
You could crunch outside
in the leaves so deep.
Mounds of them seemed to creep
into the yards and the streets.
They covered everything
and they crispy crunched.
Everyone raked them
into a great big bunch.
Little piles burning
up and down the street.
That sweet smell in the air
lifted you with a Fall type punch.
You knew for sure the
season had changed.
It was keen and neat,
and boy did you anticipate.
A little kids dream
and the activities were gonna be fun.
Apples, nuts, and Halloween and
Thanksgiving were some of the dates.
No on can ever forget
when Fall was so grand.
The leaves piled up
by their own yards gate.
Those couple weeks when
life was pure ecstasy.
That smell in the air,
and the memories were there...
just for you to take!
